How to get there

New Chitose Airport to Niseko is 2.5–3 hours by direct bus. Sapporo connection also works. No need to rent a car unless you plan to explore Hokkaido.

What to know before you book

New Chitose Airport: Direct buses run to Hirafu village (2.5–3 hours). Book your bus in advance during peak season; times and last buses are on New Chitose to Niseko, and flights up from Tokyo on Tokyo to Niseko. Sapporo train connection also works if you want to spend a night in the city. Flying light? Rent skis in Niseko instead of checking a ski bag.

Peak crowding: Christmas through early January sees the highest visitor numbers, especially from Australia. Book accommodation and ski schools months ahead. Consider late January through February for powder with fewer crowds.

Four resort areas: The All-Mountain pass covers Grand Hirafu, Hanazono, Niseko Village and Annupuri, and the shuttle between them. Moiwa sells its own ticket. Hirafu has the most restaurants and English services; see them on the Niseko map. Prices: 2026–27 lift passes. Pick a base on where to stay, and a week on when to go.
